Hilla Haavisto - Quality Engineer
Hilla Haavisto works as a Quality Engineer at Oilon’s factory in Lahti and joined the company in June 2023. “I had worked for 17 years in the woodworking industry and wanted to learn something new and develop professionally. I came across Oilon’s open position for a Quality Engineer while still on parental leave and decided to apply. What interested me about Oilon was that it’s a Finnish family-owned company and the energy technology sector, which was completely new to me,” Hilla explains.
Hilla describes the scope of her role as versatile: “In addition to quality work, my tasks include various environmental and occupational safety responsibilities, which make the job interesting and diverse. While quality work is quite similar across industries, I’ve still had a lot to learn and have grown in this new field. Especially as sustainability requirements increase, new topics are constantly emerging in my area of responsibility,” she says.
No two days are alike as Quality Engineer. Hilla’s work week includes quality meetings and safety-related tasks such as risk assessments, preparing reports, guidelines, and investigations. Operations are audited internally and by third parties, and continuous improvement is a guiding principle. Regular safety walks are conducted, and in the event of workplace accidents, the Quality Engineer participates in investigations.
For Hilla, the best part of the job is its variety and the daily challenges it brings. Coworkers are nice and easy to work with. “People here have a great sense of humor, and the overall atmosphere is good. Work is taken seriously, but the environment is relaxed. Even when the workload is heavy, the people make everything feel lighter,” Hilla shares.
